The 88-year-old was admitted to Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Friday after he had been afflicted with a respiratory infection for over a week.

According to the Vatican, “the Holy Father’s follow-up chest CT scan this afternoon… revealed the onset of bilateral pneumonia, which required additional drug therapy.”

According to the report, the Pope’s clinical condition, lab results, and a chest X-ray “continue to present a complex picture”.
