She was asked a follow-up question on the expected timing of the visit and said a meeting was expected to happen “in the near future.”

France and the UK have been leading Europe’s response to the diplomatic crisis between the US and Ukraine after talks between Trump and Zelenskyy broke down last Friday.

Macron visited the White House for talks with Trump at the start of last week, with Starmer following him to the Oval Office for separate talks with the US president days later.

After both meetings appeared to go well, Zelenskyy followed with his own ill-fated visit to see Trump last Friday.

A United States led by Donald Trump is a “reliable ally”, Sir Keir Starmer has said.

Speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions, he was asked if he had a plan B if the US president doesn’t give Ukraine a sufficient security guarantee.

“We work very closely with the United States on defence, on security and on intelligence. We have done for many, many years, we are intertwined, and of course they are a reliable ally,” he said.

“We are operating on basis day-in, day-out across the world, as he knows.”

Earlier, reports emerged that Starmer, along with France’s President Emmanuel Macron and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is considering meeting Trump in Washington.
