
Iran has rejected holding a second round of talks with the US, despite Donald Trump suggesting direct talks would be held in Pakistan tomorrow. He was planning to send JD Vance, his vice president, to lead the negotiations. Trump also renewed his threat to “knock out” Iran’s power plants and bridges unless the Iranian regime reaches a deal to end the war. The end of the ceasefire is approaching fast, with Trump warning he may not extend it beyond Wednesday.Strait of Hormuz closed again: Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has again ground to a halt after Iran reversed the brief reopening yesterday. It warned it will stay closed until the US blockade is lifted. Iranian gunboats have fired at vessels trying to pass through, with at least three reported attacks on commercial ships. Trump said Iran’s move was “a little cute” but the US would not be blackmailed.Lebanon ceasefire in place: At least three soldiers have been killed over the last 24 hours despite a 10-day truce being in place between Israel and Lebanon. They included two Israeli soldiers and one French peacekeeper. Hezbollah has been blamed for at least one attack but denied involvement. The Lebanese army has also accused Israel of ceasefire “violations”.
