Former soldier Daniel Khalife has been sentenced to 14 years and three months for escaping from prison and spying for Iran.
Khalife, 23, escaped from HMP Wandsworth in September 2023, sparking nationwide attention, before he was later found to have shared sensitive military information with Iran, which could cause “serious harm.”
Passing sentence at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said he had been motivated by “a selfish desire to show off” and described him as “a dangerous fool”.
“The mere fact that you started on this dangerous and fantastical plan demonstrates your immaturity and lack of wisdom, that you thought it was appropriate to insert yourself – an unauthorised, unqualified .
