Operations at airports across Greece were put on hold for safety reasons on Sunday, the country’s civil aviation authority (HCAA) said.
Greek state TV said unspecified issues affecting radio frequencies prompted the suspensions.
Some overflights using the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) were said to be still being serviced
State broadcaster ERT said airport arrivals and departures were suspended at 9:00 a.m. local time (0700 GMT). It said flights were being diverted to neighboring countries.
It remains unclear when normal services can be resumed.
HCAA said there had been problems at the main communications center for air traffic controllers.
