Britain’s youngest murderers since Jon Venables and Robert Thompson jailed for life
When the two boys attacked 19-year-old Shawn Seesahai with machetes, they were 12 years old.
Before the weapon was produced and both men fled, they battled Seesahai and his friend over a bench, with one boy telling the 19-year-old to “keep stepping.”
When Seesahai staggered and fell to the ground, the boys attacked him with one hitting him with “fists and feet” and the other stabbing him.
During the trial, there were divergent testimonies from witnesses regarding which boy used the machete to deliver the fatal blows, and both defendants laid blame on the other.
The young people “were engaged in a joint attack upon a man who had done nothing wrong, a man with no weapon, who was utterly defenceless on the ground,” according to the prosecutor, Michelle Heeley KC.
Seesahai sustained injuries to his back, legs, and skull in addition to a fatal stabbing wound that penetrated his right lung and heart, measuring 23 centimeters. He had come to the UK for cataract surgery from his native Anguilla in the Caribbean, and he intended to stay on to complete his studies.
