Alexei Navalny’s wife led calls on Friday at a Western security gathering for Russian President Vladimir Putin to be held accountable for the death of his jailed Kremlin opponent.
Hundreds of politicians, military officers, and diplomats gathered in Munich, Germany, for a three-day annual conference known as the Davos of Defense.
The gathering was expected to be dominated by the conflict in Israel and Ukraine, as well as concerns about the United States’ commitment to defense if former President Donald Trump is re-elected.
However, the Russian prison service reported that Navalny fell unconscious and died while walking at an Arctic penal colony. Organizers deviated from the schedule to allow Navalny’s wife, Yulia Navalnaya to speak.
