Axios added that the sources said no final date has been set yet. However, if the meeting takes place it would be the first talks held after US President Trump ordered a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities last month during the Iran-Israel conflict.

“In the immediate aftermath of the war, the Iranians were reluctant to engage with the US, but that position has gradually softened,” Axios reported.

Israel’s bombing campaign, launched with a surprise attack on June 13, wiped out the top echelon of Iran’s military leadership and killed leading nuclear scientists. Iran responded with missiles that pierced Israel’s defenses in large numbers for the first time.

The United States and Iran were in talks over Tehran’s nuclear program when Israel hit Iranian nuclear sites and military infrastructure, with the United States joining by bombing three nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan — on June 21.
