The website on Friday quoted informed sources as saying that the proposal was made by Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy for Russian President Vladimir Putin, to US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and others in a March 11 meeting.
Dmitriev reportedly suggested intelligence provided to Iran includes locations of US military facilities in the Middle East.
Dmitriev wrote in a social media post on Friday that the report was “fake.”
Since its invasion of Ukraine, Russia is said to have stepped up sharing intelligence, including satellite imagery and drone technology, with Iran while enhancing military cooperation with the country.
Politico quoted a European diplomat as expressing concerns that the Russian proposal is aimed at driving a wedge between the US and Europe.
Trilateral high-level talks on a Ukraine peace plan with Russia and the United States have been halted due to hostilities in Iran. Officials from Kyiv and Washington are scheduled to hold talks in the US on Saturday.
