US and Chinese officials held trade talks in London on Monday. Beijing’s restrictions on rare earth exports are believed to have topped the agenda.
The US sent Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
China dispatched Vice Premier He Lifeng, who heads up economic policy, and Commerce Minister Wang Wentao.
Their discussions are expected to continue into Tuesday.
The talks come after US President Donald Trump spoke with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the phone last week.
The two leaders agreed to have their negotiators continue to hammer out a deal reached in Geneva last month.
That agreement included cutting some tariffs on each other’s products for 90 days.
But Washington has accused Beijing of holding up exports of rare earth minerals and other products.
