After being found to have played a “significant part” in the violent disorder in Bristol, two men received sentences totaling nearly six years in prison.
Ashley Harris, a resident of Kingswood, hurled bottles and cans at protesters and law enforcement.
The 36-year-old also “lashed out” at police officers and engaged in physical altercations with bystanders.
He was “jeering, shouting and screaming” at police officers and members of the public, the judge said, and he was a member of the “violent mob.” He was also “totally out of control.” He received a three-year prison sentence.
The moment Leominster, Massachusetts resident George Coldicott, 28, threw an object at a police officer was captured on body-worn camera footage. He participated in disturbances on August 3 in Bristol and July 31 in London, where he threw a metal fence at a policeman.
Coldicott received concurrent sentences of 22 months in prison for the London offense and 34 months for his involvement in the Bristol disorder.
Harris and Coldicott both entered guilty pleas to violent disorder.
Avon and Somerset Police Detective Chief Inspector Clement Goodwin stated: “We witnessed significant violent disorder in Bristol on August 3rd, and both Harris and Coldicott were major contributors to it.
“The public and police officers are at risk as a result of their actions. Given this, judges have given them both lengthy prison terms.
“At this point in our investigation, 29 charges have been filed against 43 people who have been arrested. Now, twelve individuals have served jail sentences for their roles in the horrifying chaos that occurred in Bristol.”
