Two Men Killed in Helicopter Crash Near Killucan, Ireland

Two men died after their helicopter crashed into a building near Killucan, Ireland, on Tuesday afternoon. The crash occurred around 3:30 pm on farmland east of the village, embedding the helicopter into the roof of a farm building, as shown in a photo on the RTÉ website. The victims, both in their 40s, included an Irish national and a man believed to be from Eastern Europe.

Emergency services arrived shortly before 6 pm, with a hearse seen at the scene. Local residents reported the crash happened at a piggery behind the local Gaelic Athletic Association sports grounds.

Westmeath’s acting chief fire officer, Pat Hunt, confirmed that all principal response agencies, including An Garda Síochána and the ambulance service, were mobilizing to the site in the Joristown upper townland of Killucan. The exact number of casualties was initially unclear.

The Irish Air Accident Investigation Unit dispatched inspectors to the site of the single-engine helicopter crash. An Garda Síochána stated that as it is a live and ongoing operation, no further information is currently available.

Mayor Ken Glynn of Mullingar-Kinnegad municipal district called the crash “shocking and tragic,” expressing condolences to the families and first responders. Fr Stan Deegan, parish priest of St Brigid’s church in Raharney, also expressed his shock and prayers for those involved.
