Trump is “considering travelling to the Middle East” in the coming days, according to the White House
Mediators from the US, Egypt and Qatar meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh have been attempting to broker an agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza and a release of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas
The negotiations come two years and two days after Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to the 7 October 2023 attack, in which Hamas-led gunmen killed about 1,200 people and took 251 others as hostages

Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of the Gaza peace plan.
The US president says on Truth Social: “This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace.”
He then adds that “All Parties will be treated fairly” before thanking mediators and nations involved “who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen”.
