Argentinan President Javier Milei praised his US counterpart Donald Trump upon his White House visit on Tuesday.

Milei took to social media to say that Trump’s “commitment to life, freedom and peace” restored hope to the world, congratulating the US leader for sealing a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas.

“It is an honor to consider you not only an ally in the defense of those values, but also a dear friend,” Milei said.

Milei has often heaped praise on Trump, resulting in Argentina becoming one of the US president administration’s closest allies.

Argentina has been facing financial issues, with the US bailing the country out in excess of $20 billion (€17.2 billion).

Milei’s visit is said to have two objectives: securing tariff exemptions or reductions for products from Argentina, and to learn how the US will implement the 20 billion currency swap line.

Trump reaffirms Milei endorsement
Trump meanwhile endorsed Milei ahead of the elections in Argentina.

Upon his visit to the White House, US President Trump called Milei a “very great leader.”

This is the second time the US president confirms his endorsement for the current Argentina leader, after handing Milei a print-out of a Truth Social post with his endorsement.

Trump also said that should his libertarian friend not win, the US “would not be generous to Argentina.”

Regarding the chances of securing a free trade agreement with Argentina, Trump said such a deal is a possibility.

“We’re going to discuss some of it today,” the US leader said, adding that the US wants to “help Argentina, and we want to always help ourselves.”

“We will be trading with Argentina,” Trump concluded.
