Workers in Dresden, a city in eastern Germany, raced on Friday to remove pieces of a partially collapsed bridge before the Elbe River’s water levels rose too high.
It happens in the midst of widespread flood warnings for Saxony and most of central Europe, with the expectation that the floodwaters will eventually reach the city.
Early on Wednesday, a 100-meter (330-foot) section of the Carolabrücke bridge in Dresden, Saxony, collapsed and fell into the Elbe River.
A vital route for bicycles, trams, and pedestrians is the bridge. Nevertheless, since the collapse happened at 3:08 a.m. local time, there were no casualties.
The bridge is divided into three sections, totaling about 400 meters in length. The bridge’s two recently repaired sections coincided with its collapse.
