Tens of thousands outside South Korea parliament call for Yoon to go –

Tens of thousands of people have gathered outside South Korea’s National Assembly calling for the removal of embattled President Yoon Suk Yeol

Earlier on Saturday, Yoon apologised for declaring martial law on Tuesday, and said he would not do it again

The protest outside the National Assembly comes hours before MPs are due to vote on an opposition motion to impeach Yoon

The ruling People Power Party (PPP) has said that they will not support the impeachment vote

The opposition coalition, which holds a majority in parliament, needs just eight members of Yoon’s party to impeach him

Yoon Suk Yeol plunged his country into turmoil on Tuesday when he put the military in charge, claiming it was necessary to defend the constitutional order and “eradicate the despicable pro-North Korean anti-state forces”.

However, his shock move sparked fury from the public and politicians who immediately opposed him – forcing him to quickly back down.
