The Syrian Defense Ministry said on Thursday that the Israeli army launched airstrikes against targets in the capital Damascus and near the central city of Homs, resulting in the death of one soldier, according to NHK.
The Israeli government has not commented on the airstrikes in Syria. Israel has for years carried out airstrikes against Syrian targets linked to local militant groups backed by Iran.
The Israeli military said on Thursday it had carried out airstrikes in neighboring Lebanon, destroying weapons storage and production facilities belonging to the Lebanon-based Shiite Muslim group Hezbollah.
The video shows a large explosion at night in an urban area of Beirut, sending flames and smoke into the sky. The Israeli army is also intensifying its offensive in Jabaliya, north of the Gaza Strip. The attacks forced more than 20,000 residents to evacuate.
The situation led to the postponement of a polio vaccination campaign in the region by the World Health Organization.
Israel does not seem to have given up its offensive, even when the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visits the country and the Arab countries to avoid a wider regional conflict.
