Sweden asserts that Iran is the source of thousands of texts demanding retaliation for the Quran’s burning. It is claimed that Iran incited retaliatory attacks in Sweden by sending thousands of text messages in response to the burning of the Quran.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Swedish Prosecution Authority stated that last year, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iran broke into a local SMS provider and sent out approximately 15,000 text messages demanding retaliation in response to the burning of the holy book of Islam during protests.
“[A] cyber group acted on behalf of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to carry out an influence campaign,” according to a statement from the Swedish Security Service SAPO.
