South Australian jockey recovering from fall after horse suffers heart attack mid-race

A young rider who was seriously injured in a horrific fall in Adelaide’s northern suburbs is now in a stable condition. Ivy Lam, 23, was riding Jacob’s Gate in Race 7 at Gawler Racecourse yesterday when the horse collapsed during a medical episode, causing her to fall to the ground. 9News understands the horse suffered a heart attack and did not survive. Racing SA chief executive Vaughn Lynch said the accident had shocked the entire industry. “It wasn’t his fault, it was just one of those things that happens.”
