The Sony Group has announced its financial results for the first nine months of the 2024 fiscal year, reporting record-breaking profits driven by strong sales in its music and gaming divisions. The company revealed that revenue from April to December reached 10.3 trillion yen (approximately 67.5billion),markingan8.267.5billion),markingan8.27.8 billion). Both figures represent all-time highs for the company during this period.
Sony attributed the impressive performance to robust music streaming revenue and strong demand for its gaming consoles. In light of these results, the company has raised its net profit forecast for the fiscal year ending in March by approximately 10%, projecting a record 1.08 trillion yen ($7 billion).
However, during a press conference on Thursday, Sony President Totoki Hiroki acknowledged the challenges the company faces in competing with global rivals. He stated, “We aim to become truly competitive in the global market, but compared to the largest players, our firm still lags in terms of scale and profitability.”
Totoki is set to assume the role of CEO in April.
