Major search under way for missing girl in River Thames near Gravesend

A major search is underway to find a girl who has gone missing in the River Thames in Kent, reports say.
Emergency services are responding to reports that two children got into difficulty in the water near the Royal Terrace Pier in Gravesend, HM Coastguard said.
HM Coastguard were alerted to the incident at around 1.35pm on Friday and one child has been recovered while the search is ongoing for a second.
It is believed that a boy was retrieved from the water and taken to a local hospital for further medical attention, but a search continues for a girl who remains missing.
The parents of the children have been informed, Kent Online reported.
Kent Police confirmed that they were also called by the Port of London Authority at 1.46pm on Friday to concerns for welfare of two people who had entered the river at Royal Pier Road.
They explained that officers, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, the RNLI and South East Coast Ambulance Service were at the scene helping to search.
Metropolitan Police boats are also at the scene.
