Russia proposes restoring direct flights with US

US and Russian delegations met on Thursday in Istanbul. The meeting followed talks between senior officials from both sides in Saudi Arabia on February 18.Russia’s foreign ministry says it has asked the United States to consider resuming direct flights between the two countries.

The Russian ministry said on Friday that the two sides discussed normalizing the operations of their diplomatic missions at the meeting in Turkey.

The ministry also announced that its North Atlantic Department Director Alexander Darchiev will soon leave for Washington as Russia’s new ambassador to the United States.

Diplomatic moves are increasing between the two sides.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that his country’s first contact with the new US administration inspired a degree of hope.

Putin also expressed hope about holding a summit with President Donald Trump.
