Putin agrees to halt strikes on Ukraine energy targets for 30 days.

Kremlin says after call with Trump.Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have spoken today for at least 90 minutes. Russia has agreed to a partial ceasefire on targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure as a result, for a period of 30 days. A White House statement said there will be immediate “technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace”.

During the conversation, Trump put forward a proposal for Ukraine and Russia to “mutually refrain from attacks on energy infrastructure facilities for 30 days”, according to a statement by the Kremlin.

It added that the “key condition for preventing the escalation of the conflict” would be “the complete cessation of foreign military aid and the provision of intelligence information to Kyiv”.Ceasefire

“The leaders agreed that the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace,” the readout says.

On when/where negotiations will take place

“These negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East.

“The leaders spoke broadly about the Middle East as a region of potential cooperation to prevent future conflicts.”

On ‘strategic’ weapons – an apparent reference to nukes

“They further discussed the need to stop proliferation of strategic weapons and will engage with others to ensure the broadest possible application.”

On broader US-Russia ties

“The two leaders agreed that a future with an improved bilateral relationship between the United States and Russia has huge upside.

“This includes enormous economic deals and geopolitical stability when peace has been achieved.”
