Prince Emmanuel spotted training at football academy in Spain

Will the youngest son of Belgium’s king and queen become a pro footballer? He appears to be training at a football academy, but the royal family isn’t talking

Prince Emmanuel, the youngest son of King Filip and Queen Mathilde, has been caught on video training at a football academy in Spain, Het Laatste Nieuws reports. Up to this point, it was unknown where the prince was studying.

Normally the palace releases statements regarding the higher education of the royal offspring. We are well aware that crown princess Elisabeth, 23, is studying for a master’s in public policy at Harvard, following a bachelor degree in history and politics at Oxford.

Her 21-year-old brother, Gabriel, is currently in France for a five-month stint studying geopolitics as part of his programme at the Royal Military Academy of Belgium. The youngest royal, 16-year-old Eléonore, attends the International School of Brussels.

But Emmanuel’s whereabouts have been shrouded in mystery, with the simple explanation that the 19-year-old is “following language and sports training at an academy abroad”. That would appear to be a football academy, although the name and location of the institution has not been revealed.

Emmanuel is known for his talent in sport, from skiing to tennis to running. But, while he was an avid supporter of the Red Devils, he was not known as a footballer. The palace has neither confirmed nor denied the news that he is training to become a pro footballer, but simply stated that Emmanuel wants to continue his training “anonymously and privately
