India: Manipur security forces claim that when hundreds of people attempted to storm a police compound, they opened fire with live rounds after launching tear gas.
In the northeastern Indian state of Manipur, security forces opened fire late on Thursday in response to what they describe as mob violence, leaving at least two dead and numerous others injured.
For the next five days, mobile internet services in the Churachandpur district will not be available, according to the authorities.
When violence broke out last year, Churachandpur, where the Kuki community resides, was among the first places in the state to see ethnic clashes.
