Police arrested a person who pointed a laser beam at the helicopter

The National Police Air Service said it had caught a man pointing a laser beam at one of its helicopters over London. A video released Saturday morning shows a green light being directed from the cockpit of the department’s helicopter — much to the pilot’s anger and irritation. “Last night we were constantly lasered on during the mission,” a spokesperson tweeted. “It’s extremely dangerous, but we can pinpoint your exact location in seconds.”
The service was asked if it had managed to “catch”, to which the account answered in the affirmative. It was unclear if this meant the person had been arrested and no further details were available despite requests for comment. It remains to be seen what punishment, if any, the culprit will receive, but history shows that the offense is punishable by several weeks in prison. In early October, a man was jailed for 12 weeks after pointing a laser beam at a plane. David Warren, 41, told Cheshire Police he used the laser to guide the helicopter through the sky while recording it on his phone. Sergeant Michael Hayes said: “Warren’s sentence should serve as a reminder of the seriousness of this offence. “I hope it will remind people of the dangers associated with the laser, which some people may consider a harmless device. “This is far from the case and could have very serious consequences.”
