Police arrest five people over fake Brad Pitt scam after two women lost $362,000

Five people are detained by police in connection with a fictitious Brad Pitt scheme after two women lose over $500,000.    Five persons have been detained by Spanish police on suspicion of defrauding two women of €325,000 ($527,000) via online personas assumed to be Hollywood actor Brad Pitt.

As part of Operation Bralina, which covered eight provinces, ten more people were looked into, the Guardia Civil said in a statement released on Monday.

Two women fell victim to the scammers, one losing €175,000 ($284,000) and the other €150,000 ($243,000). Police were able to retrieve €85,000 ($137,000) out of that total.
