England hammered by Pakistan as Chris Woakes tries to play the role of James Anderson… The first day of the Test between Pakistan and England ended with the hosts 328/4 at the top of the day on Monday at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan’s comeback was fueled by captain Shan Masood who led from the front and scored a century on the first day.

The home team won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they were soon dealt a blow in the form of the dismissal of opening batsman Saim Ayub as he was caught behind the wicket of Gus Atkinson after scoring just four runs. However, Masood and Abdullah Shafique’s 114-run stand took the national team to 122-1 at lunch.
The match ended at 328/4 with Saud Shakeel (35) and Naseem Shah (0) batting.
The match, the first of a three-match series, is being played at the Multan Cricket Stadium and is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25.
During today’s match, Masood was awarded an lbw to a delivery from Brydon Carse in the debutant’s second over, but the batsman reviewed the decision and overturned it after replays confirmed that the ball had been tossed outside leg.
Masood then took two runs from Atkinson to race to a fifty in 43 balls. Shafique got a break in the 35th over when he attempted a dangerous single and England captain Ollie Pope’s direct hit narrowly missed the stumps.
Despite the lack of stumps, the team captain did not give up and dismissed Shafique at 59.5 as the opener scored 102 runs from 184 balls, with 10 boundaries and two towering sixes.
However, players like Saim Ayub could not do much for the team and ended up scoring only four runs.
