Buckley dedicates Oscar to ‘beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart’ – as she becomes first Irish person to win best actress
It’s another historic Oscar: Jessie Buckley has become the first Irish person to win the best actress category.
“This is really something,” she says.
Then she gives a shoutout to her Irish family.
“They are all here,” she says as she tries to spot them in the auditorium.
A tearful Buckley also thanks her father and then mentions that it’s Mother’s Day in the UK today.
Buckley then says she would dedicate the award to the “beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart”.

One Battle After Another is arguably the big winner of the night as it converted its 13 nominations into six awards, outperforming Sinners, which had scooped up a record-breaking 16 nominations.
