Neighbors described how a horrific triple stabbing that left a young man dead transformed their south London street into a “war zone.”
Following reports of an attack, police, paramedics, and an air ambulance were rushed to the scene on Wandsworth Road, between Clapham and Battersea, at around four in the morning on Sunday.
Three victims of stab wounds were discovered at the scene.
Two more people were taken to the hospital, and one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Residents recounted hearing cars revving and people shouting during the late-night attack.
The 56-year-old mother of three said, “At first, I thought the shouting was coming from drunks, but then the volume went up and cars started revving. It was frightful. I noticed people running when I peered outside.
It was a chaotic situation. I never would have ventured out there. I was sickened to learn that someone had died. Literally, someone passed away at our door. How wasteful. My thoughts are with his family.
“Police arrived in loads of cars; it was very dramatic,” remarked a second neighbor. There were a few injured people lying on the ground, along with paramedics nearby. It resembled a combat zone.
Experts in forensics were on the scene on Monday, searching for hints.
As part of the investigation, detectives were searching through dashcam, doorbell, and CCTV footage in the interim.
Additionally, officers were conducting door-to-door investigations.
According to the Met, they were called “to reports of a large group fighting in Wandsworth Road with knives.”
A Met spokesperson said on Sunday night, “A man in his 20s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of the emergency services.” “Police are attempting to notify his next of kin.”
Two additional victims, both in their 20s, have been admitted to the hospital for medical attention.
One received care for wounds that were not thought to be life-threatening. It is not yet known what the other victim’s condition is.
There have not been any arrests made yet.
A crime scene remained in place on Sunday night, and an investigation is still ongoing.
Wandsworth Road was closed between Queenstown Road and Lambourn Road. Three local bus routes have been forced to change their routes due to the closure.
“We were called at 4.07am today (Sunday, September 29) to reports of a stabbing incident in Wandsworth Road,” a London Ambulance Service spokesman said.
In addition to ambulance crews, we also dispatched an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer, paramedics in fast response cars, and London’s Air Ambulance to the scene.
“Three people were treated at the scene by our crews. Regretfully, one person passed away at the scene in spite of the emergency services’ best efforts. Two people were taken: one to a large trauma center and the other to a hospital.
