In Major League Baseball, Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers has hit his 53rd homer, putting him in a tie to top the National League’s ongoing home run race.
The playoff-bound Dodgers continue to lead the National League West Division. They faced the San Francisco Giants at the Dodgers’ home stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Ohtani started as a leadoff designated hitter.
He struck out in his first at-bat in the first inning and his second at-bat in the third.
In the sixth inning with the score at 5-4, Ohtani hit a high outside fastball in his fourth at-bat, driving it to left-center field for a solo home run, his 53rd of the season.
The homer was clocked at 172.8 kilometers per hour and traveled 122.8 meters.
Ohtani hit homers in two consecutive games, and is now tied with Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber for the National League home run lead.
Schwarber hit 12 homers in both July and August, but has so far hit four in 18 games this month.
Both players have seven games left in the regular season.
Attention is focused on whether Ohtani can achieve home run titles for three consecutive years and surpass his personal best of 54 home runs that he set last year
