At an Auckland tennis club, a man has been detained and accused of killing scientist Stephen Thorpe.
On Saturday morning at the Blockhouse Bay Tennis Club, Thorpe, a resident of Mount Roskill, passed away from injuries that appeared to be caused by stab wounds.
As police investigated the tragic circumstances surrounding the 54-year-old’s death, cordons were placed around the scene.Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin said the police investigation “progressed rapidly” on Wednesday afternoon when a 26-year-old man was taken into custody near the homicide scene.
“We have since charged this man with Stephen’s murder.”
A search warrant took place overnight at a nearby address on Exminster St as part of the investigation.
