New Zealand delivered a commanding performance in the tri-nation series final against Pakistan at the National Stadium on Friday night, solidifying their status as strong contenders for the upcoming Champions Trophy. The Kiwis emerged as deserving winners, showcasing their dominance with both bat and ball.

Pacer Will O’Rourke was named Player of the Match for his impressive figures of 4 for 43 in 9.3 overs, setting the tone for New Zealand’s victory. On a challenging pitch, Tom Latham (56) and Daryl Mitchell (57) stitched together a crucial 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket, steering the Black Caps to victory after a stellar bowling effort.

Pakistan showed glimpses of resistance, breaking the 71-run stand between Kane Williamson (34) and Devon Conway (48) with quick wickets from Salman Ali Agha and Naseem Shah. However, Latham and Mitchell’s resilience proved decisive, as their partnership kept New Zealand on track despite Pakistan’s attempts to turn the tide.

Luck also favored the Kiwis, with Mohammad Rizwan opting not to review an lbw decision against Latham that would have been out, and dropped catches by Shaheen Afridi and Saud Shakeel further denting Pakistan’s chances.

New Zealand’s flawless campaign saw them remain unbeaten throughout the series, with consistent performances in all three matches. Despite an early setback when Naseem Shah dismissed Will Young in the second over, Williamson and Conway’s partnership stabilized the innings before Latham and Mitchell sealed the win in 45.2 overs.

Pakistan, batting first after winning the toss, were bowled out for 242 in 49.3 overs. Mohammad Rizwan (46) and Salman Ali Agha (45) were the top scorers, but the team struggled to build momentum after openers Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam failed to provide a strong start. Naseem Shah (2 wickets) and Shaheen Afridi (1 wicket) were the standout bowlers for Pakistan, but their efforts weren’t enough to stop New Zealand’s charge.
