Netanyahu expresses regret over Qatari official’s death in Israeli airstrike

|The White House says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his “deep regret” over the death of a Qatari serviceman after an airstrike on Doha.

The Israeli military conducted the air offensive targeting senior Hamas members on September 9. Five Hamas members and the Qatari serviceman were killed.

The White House announced on Monday that President Donald Trump had hosted a trilateral phone call with Netanyahu and Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

Netanyahu reportedly expressed regret that “Israel violated Qatari sovereignty and affirmed that Israel will not conduct such an attack again in the future.”

US news website Axios reported earlier this month that “Qatar wants an apology from Israel for its strike in Doha before it resumes its mediation on a Gaza peace deal.”
