N.B. news: Vehicle crashes in Moncton creek , Canada. CTV News”Two men are dead following a crash in a creek in Moncton, N.B., Tuesday morning.

Moncton Fire Department Platoon Chief Brian McDonald said crews responded to the crash in the creek around 9:19 a.m. They determined two people were still in the vehicle.

“At that point in time, more than 30 minutes had elapsed, so our focus at that time switched from a rescue operation to a recovery operation,” McDonald said. “It’s a difficult, challenging rescue for us.”

McDonald said it appears the car was travelling north on Church Street when it left the road and landed in the river.

“We don’t know what happened,” he said. “We don’t know why the car left the road.”

Eugene Thibodeau lives nearby and says he was having breakfast around 9 a.m. when he heard sirens.

“I looked out the window and there’s fire trucks and other vehicles arriving, but I never heard anything. Usually I hear the train go by, but never heard a bang or nothing,” said Thibodeau.

Water rescue technicians and rope technicians helped remove the vehicle from the creek.

The overpass connecting Church Street and Donald Avenue is still closed to traffic.

A collision reconstructionist was also at the scene.
