Paul Goldsmith, the minister of justice for New Zealand, announced on Thursday that Kim Dotcom will be extradited to the United States.
Dotcom, a German native, is being prosecuted for his involvement in the defunct file-sharing website Megaupload. The 50-year-old has been fighting extradition to the US since 2012, when the FBI raided his Auckland mansion on orders.
Dotcom’s extradition order was signed by Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith, a spokesperson for the minister said on Thursday.
Goldsmith released a statement saying, “I carefully reviewed all of the information and have determined that Mr. Dotcom should be surrendered to the US to face trial.”
“As is customary, I have given Mr. Dotcom a brief window of time to think about and get input on my choice. I therefore will not be making any more comments at this time.”
