A man has been jailed for murdering 18-year-old Yusuf Mahamoud by stabbing him in the neck as he left a restaurant in Finchley with friends. Tyrese Jennings, 21, was jailed for 13 years at the Old Bailey on Wednesday after pleading guilty to manslaughter. Police and paramedics were called to reports of a stabbing in Regent’s Park Road, Finchley, at around 9.40pm on August 7 last year. They found Mr Mahamud, from Enfield, seriously injured. He died at the scene from a neck injury. Investigators found that Mr Mahamoud had left his home earlier in the evening, before arriving in the Regent’s Park Road area around 9pm in a car with some friends. They left and entered a nearby restaurant. Jennings and two teenagers confronted Mr Mahamoud as he left the restaurant. During the ensuing scuffle, Mr. Mahamud was stabbed in the neck and the three men fled. Investigators began an investigation and, through video surveillance and cell phone analysis, quickly identified the three men as Jennings and two 15-year-old boys. Jennings, of Litchfield Grove, Finchley, was arrested on August 14 and charged with murder. He was found guilty of manslaughter on July 11 following a trial at the Old Bailey. He was found not guilty of murder. On Wednesday (October 9), the same court sentenced him to 13 years in prison. The two 15-year-old boys, whose identities have not been released for legal reasons, are also charged with murder. They were acquitted of all offenses by the same court. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Williams said on Wednesday: “Our thoughts are with Yusuf’s family today. He was a young man with his whole life ahead of him and they continue to mourn his untimely loss.” Today’s conviction and Jennings’ sentence will bring them some comfort.”
