Maggie Smith, a well-known actress, dies at the age of 89.

Throughout her career, Smith starred in more than 50 films and won two Academy Awards.
According to her sons, Maggie Smith, an English actress who was considered one of the most well-known figures in British cinema, passed away in a London hospital at the age of 89.

“An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end,” the statement read.

Over the course of her lengthy career, Smith received numerous honors, including two Oscars for the films “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” (1969) and “California Suite” (1978). She starred in over 50 films. 

In 1990, Queen Elizabeth knighted Smith and made her a dame.

In the twenty-first century, she gained new fans for her portrayals of the Dowager Countess of Grantham in “Downton Abbey” and Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter novels.
