Last words of Jay Slater provide crucial lead in search across Tenerife’s rugged terrain

The final phone call made by Jay Slater before he went missing has been identified as a crucial ‘clue’ in the hunt for the lost teenager.

The 19 year old apprentice bricklayer from Lancashire disappeared on June 17 while on a trip to Tenerife, where he was attending a three-day music festival in the remote Rural de Teno area. After leaving his mates on Sunday night to head to an Airbnb with other festival-goers who had rented a car, it’s believed he attempted the risky 11-hour walk back to his digs in the south of the island the next morning, having missed the first bus.

In his last known phone conversation, Jay rang his mate, Lucy Mae Law, at about 8:15am before his phone battery died. Lucy, who jetted off with Jay on his first ever lads’ holiday, shared that he said he was peckish, parched and had nicked his leg on a cactus.
