The Japanese government has told the ruling parties that it is making arrangements to hold a summit between Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and US President Donald Trump on March 19.
The government said on Wednesday that Takaichi will leave Japan on March 18 for a four-day trip to the US, and that it is trying to schedule a meeting between her and Trump on Thursday next week.
The government said Takaichi wants to reaffirm with Trump the unity of their two countries and further promote bilateral cooperation in a wide range of fields, including diplomacy, economy and security. It also said Takaichi hopes to make the meeting an opportunity to open a new chapter in the history of the Japan-US alliance.
The government also informed the ruling parties that in the visit, she will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Akazawa Ryosei.
