On Wednesday, Israel carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon that killed three Hezbollah fighters and 10 civilians, including six women and three children, in response to a rocket attack on a military base in Safed that killed a female soldier and wounded eight people.
Hezbollah vowed to retaliate although the group did not claim the attack on the northern Israeli town.
While the rocket attack was not claimed, the exchanges of fire — and the worst single-day civilian death toll in Lebanon since cross-border hostilities began in October — raised fears of a broader conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
On Thursday Hezbollah targeted surveillance equipment in an Israeli post in the occupied Shebaa Farms.
