Israel to receive $8.7 billion military aid package from US: Defense Ministry

Israel announced on Thursday that it had obtained a $8.7 billion aid package from the US to help sustain its military operations and keep a competitive military advantage in the area.

The package includes $5.2 billion for air defense systems, such as the Iron Dome anti-missile system, David’s Sling, and an advanced laser system, and $3.5 billion for necessary wartime procurement, which has already been received and set aside for crucial military purchases.

Israel is presently engaged in combat on two fronts: the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon, which is supported by Iran, and the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas in Gaza.

According to a statement from Israel’s Defense Ministry, the announcement of aid followed discussions between Eyal Zamir, the director general of the country’s defense ministry, and American defense officials, including acting Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Amanda Dory, at the Pentagon.
