Israel accused Hamas of a “blatant violation of the ceasefire” earlier today, alleging it had fired an anti-tank missile and gunfire towards IDF troops. It later named two soldiers killed in Rafah as Yaniv Kola and Itay Yavetz
Hamas denied breaching the ceasefire, saying it was “unaware of any events or clashes” in Rafah, and said it remained committed to the deal
Israel then confirmed it had carried out strikes in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, in retaliation
Later on Sunday, the IDF announced a “wave of strikes” in southern Gaza – a follow-up statement said “dozens of Hamas terror targets” were struck across the Strip
Local sources in Gaza told the BBC that six Hamas fighters, including a senior field commander, were killed in one strike on the town of al-Zawaida
Hospital source told BBC News that 44 people were killed across Gaza throughout the day
Israel also announced a suspension of aid into Gaza, amid accusations over the ceasefire violation
But hours later, the IDF said “renewed enforcement” of the ceasefire deal – which includes an end to the fighting and more aid into Gaza – was under way
