Israel offers Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar safe exit from Gaza in bid to end war

Israel offers Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, a safe way out of Gaza. As concerns about the two sides’ ability to reach a ceasefire agreement grow, Israel offered to give Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar safe passage out of Gaza in exchange for the organization freeing the hostages it holds and ceding control of the strip, a senior official said.

In an interview with Bloomberg News’ Washington bureau on Tuesday, Israel’s envoy for hostages, Gal Hirsch, declared, “I am ready to provide safe passage to Sinwar, his family, whoever wants to join him.” “We demand the release of the hostages. Naturally, we want Gaza to be managed by a new system that is demilitarized and deradicalized.

Hirsch stated that he made the offer of safe passage available a day and a half ago, but he would not describe the reaction received thus far. He restated that as part of any agreement, Israel would also be prepared to release the prisoners it is holding.

Hirsch explained that the offer was a part of an attempt to find fresh ideas as chances for a ceasefire dwindle. A fresh ceasefire plan is being drafted by the US, Qatar, and Egypt to Israel, but according to Hirsch, Hamas has so far preferred to impose its will rather than engage in dialogue.

It is uncertain if Hamas would agree to Sinwar’s request to leave Gaza, particularly in light of Israel’s track record of attacking its own agents overseas.

Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, was assassinated in Tehran on July 31; however, Israel has not admitted guilt. However, Iran has claimed that Israel was responsible for Haniyeh’s death, which occurred during a bombing at a guest house in Tehran.
