Ishiba, Modi travel to Sendai on Shinkansen bullet train .

Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have traveled together aboard a Shinkansen bullet train.

Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have traveled together aboard a Shinkansen bullet train.

The two leaders made a trip from Tokyo to Sendai on Saturday, one day after they agreed to step up cooperation for the introduction of Shinkansen trains for a high-speed railway line now under construction in India.

Ishiba highlighted the safety and punctuality of the bullet train as he and Modi sat together in the engineer’s cab of a Hayabusa Shinkansen train.

The chairman of East Japan Railway Company, Fukasawa Yuji, briefed them on the performance and other features of a new Shinkansen model.

During a luncheon at a hotel in Sendai, Ishiba noted that he and Modi were greeted at Tokyo station by several Indian train drivers who have been participating in training sessions at JR East.

Ishiba said he is looking forward to seeing Indian drivers operating Shinkansen trains in India.

India is building a high-speed railway line to connect the commercial city of Mumbai and Ahmedabad, 500 kilometers away.

The country plans to introduce Shinkansen trains on the line in the 2030s.

While in Miyagi Prefecture, the two prime ministers toured a semiconductor faclity.
