Iran’s Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani, who visited Lebanon after last month’s killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli strike, has not been heard from since the attacks in Beirut a late last week, Reuters told two senior Iranian security officials.

One of the officials said Qaani was in the southern suburb of Beirut, known as Dahiyeh, during a bombing on Thursday that he said targeted former Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine, but the official said no he did not meet Safieddine.

The official said Iran and Hezbollah have not been able to contact Qaani since then. Israel struck several targets in Dahiyeh as part of its campaign against the Iranian-backed Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah.

The second official also said that Qaani went to Lebanon after Nasrallah’s assassination and that Iranian authorities have been unable to contact him since the attack on Safieddine, who was widely tipped to be the next leader of Hezbollah. .
