Iran directs the Tehran German Language Institute to close.

The language school was closed because it was believed to have “committed various illegal actions.” In July, an Islamic center in Hamburg was also closed.

Witnesses reported seeing security guards securing one branch in the Ekhtiareh neighborhood of northern Tehran, and images of the language school’s heavily policed exterior went viral on social media.

The DSIT was founded in 1995 by the German Embassy in Tehran. It is “one of the leading institutions for the learning of the German language,” offering courses at various levels for both adults and children, according to its website.
