Feb 28 (Reuters) – Iran’s Defence Minister Amir Nasirzadeh and Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammed Pakpour are believed to have been killed in Israeli attacks, two sources familiar with Israel’s military operations and one regional source said.. The Israeli military said on Saturday it struck several sites in Tehran where senior Iranian political and security officials were meeting, as part of the joint Israeli-US attack on Iran.
In a statement posted on X, the army said the strikes were carried out simultaneously early in the morning at multiple locations in Tehran, targeting gatherings of high-ranking figures in Iran’s political and security establishment.
It said an assessment of the results of the attack is under way, adding that it is also prepared for the possibility that the current campaign could expand.
An Israeli journalist said during a live on-air briefing that Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Khamenei and a former defense minister, was also among the targets.
