Mali: One of the worst attacks since unrest started more than ten years ago targeted a police training academy and a nearby airport.

An al-Qaeda affiliate is thought to have launched an attack on Bamako, the capital of Mali, earlier this week, killing over seventy people, according to security and diplomatic sources.

Hardline fighters from the Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wa al-Muslimeen (JNIM) carried out the Tuesday attack on the elite police training academy and the nearby airport, shocking and infuriating the people of the West African nation.
