In addition to the arrests, 402 adults and juveniles were recently freed from facilities purportedly run by a prominent business enterprise.
The head of a well-known business group and other individuals have been detained by Malaysian police on suspicion of managing charity homes where hundreds of children and young adults were allegedly subjected to physical and sexual abuse.Several of the inmates served on the advisory board of GISB, a self-described “Islamic” business that operates laundromats and supermarkets in more than 20 countries. GISB was associated with the now-defunct Malaysian religious sect known as Al-Arqam.
Malaysia is detaining business executives while it investigates a report alleging child sex abuse.
